ACADEMIC PROGRAMOur Lady of Fatima University College
of Medicine is one of the Philippine's most distinguished centers for medical education. Medical education is rigorous and Our Lady of Fatima's students have a competitive advantage. Because the University's College of Medicine prides itself on responding to the rapid changes in science, technology and the social environment, the school is able to fulfill its commitment to educate, train, and produce qualified and competent world class medical practitioners.
The structure of the program ensures that students have within their reach all the necessary "tools" for learning. In fact, the Fatima Medical Center, the main instructional facility, is where students participate in the "hands-on" learning environment. This type of learning environment has two exemplary benefits. First, the exposure to and use of sophisticated and cutting-edge medical, diagnostic and surgical equipment, training mannequins, and simulators. Second, extensive
patient care experience. The College of Medicine is the first and only Philippine medical school to have an institutional clerkship program with foreign hospitals. To date, the University has sent over 100 medical students for Clinical Clerkship training in the United States at a variety of ACGME- affiliated hospitals. Such educational partnerships provide career opportunities abroad for our students. Since its inception
in 1967, the University has graduated more than 15,000 medical and allied medical health practitioners from all disciplines. This statistic is living proof of the College of Medicine's valuable contribution in the development and service of the medical and paramedical professions in the Philippines and abroad. The University is fully committed to providing the best environment in which students learn the principles and theories of medicine and obtain the necessary mastery of
knowledge and experience to be able to have a successful practice. Doctor Of Medicine Degree (MD)The curriculum for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree program at Our Lady of Fatima University College of Medicine consists of two educational components. The first two years are the Basic Science courses. The last two years are the Clinical Sciences, which are the US Integrated Clinical Clerkships. The classes in the Basic Sciences are taught in English and the
clinical clerkships are performed in ACGME-affiliated teaching hospitals in the U.S. Our Lady of Fatima College of Medicine's academic curriculum is structured and delivered in a similar way as U.S. medical education. The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree is awarded after the student has successfully completed and passed all requirements of both the Basic Science and Clinical Science components. The University offers personalized instruction, classrooms and labs with new
state-of-the-art equipment and technology developed specifically for medical education. The high-tech library has the printed and online material essential to the pursuit of a medical degree. There are eighteen weeks per semester and two semesters per academic year. Basic Sciences, which
incorporates all of the traditional didactic classroom and lab work, is conducted in modern and state-of-the-art facilities. In the first semester at the Fatima Medical Center, students are exposed to the environment and experiences of a clinical setting. The Basic Sciences curriculum provides a comprehensive background and foundation for the next sequence of medical education - Clinical Sciences. In order to
enter the Clinical Sciences, which start in the third year of study, students must have completed successfully all Basic Science requirements as well as USMLE Step 1. |
